Our Story

Our Start

What started as a brief mission trip in 2013 has blossomed into people being on mission to see transformation in Zambian communities. From this mission trip Savannah Black and local pastor, Bitwell Njovu, met. From this meeting, the Lord led these two to start a school to educate and share the gospel with orphans and vulnerable children in the city in 2016. In the starting of the school, with $800 raised by a college student, Pastor Bitwell Njovu said these words

“If God is with us, we cannot fail.”

More people got excited about what God was doing in Zambia to reach a vulnerable community, and in 2017, a team of Christians from South Carolina partnered with Bitwell and started a nonprofit.

Hands of Hope was born.

Their purpose was to transform lives through knowing Jesus as a personal savior, quality Christian education, nutrition programs, college programs, and clean water initiatives.

Now

God has blessed Hands of Hope immensely and we have seen rapid growth. Through partnership with believers in Lusaka and Mumbwa, Zambia, Hands of Hope now has several areas of ministry across the country to carry out God’s calling and vision.

300+ orphaned and vulnerable children are receiving an education while learning who God is and what he did for each of us. Kids are seeing a hope for the future. And the community sees a visible expression of God’s love.

68 orphaned children are sponsored full-time, receiving food at home and education support monthly, so that they can see a loving Father that meets them right where they are at, and people across the world love and believe in them.

There are two church plants in villages that preach the word of God to communities who otherwise wouldn’t have access to the Bible or Church.

Students who have completed secondary school receive higher education sponsorship to carry out ministry in different professions, continuing to carry out this vision of transformation in Zambia.

Within Mumbwa, Zambia, Hands of Hope has began building a ‘Transformation Center’ in Mutanya village to have a center for people to know God, practice sustainable farming, learn a trade, and boost local economy.
